BDO’s ESG unit trust fund sees AUM increase by 32%

The bank’s UITF ESG AUM stood at 99.4 million pesos at the end of 2020, up almost a third (32.1%) from the 75.2 million pesos seen in 2019, the lender said in a statement Wednesday.
It also climbed 79% from the AUM level of 55.5 million pesos in 2016, when the fund was launched.
“Although the fund is still small, it has the potential to grow in size and importance as more and more investors consciously seek companies that protect the environment, are socially responsible and practice good governance in a sustainable manner” , said BDO.
Meanwhile, UITF yields were 13.95% and 19.9% in the second half and fourth quarter of 2020, respectively.
The bank noted that the fund’s growth in assets under management and higher return reflected growth in global assets under management, which jumped 29% to $ 1.7 trillion in the fourth quarter of last year.
Through UITF, clients can invest in a fund that spans multiple “socially responsible” companies, BDO said.
The income of the Sy-led lender fell 36.2 percent to 28.2 billion pesos in 2020, from 44.2 billion pesos a year earlier due to increased provisions for losses amid the crisis .
