Employers plan to hire 31.6% of new college graduates from the Class of 2022 compared to the Class of 2021, according to a report released Thursday by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. That’s up from a similar report last fall that found employers expected to increase hiring by 26.6%. NACE also noted that many positions are hybrid or remote.
“This push is fueled by the fact that we are seeing increased hiring across a variety of industries,” said NACE executive director Shawn VanDerziel.
The organization noted that 16% of companies said their hiring plans called for increases of 100% or more. The oil and gas extraction industry led the way with the greatest increase; it plans to hire 105.9% more graduates from the Class of 2022 than from the Class of 2021.
The NACE report also found that 40% of employers plan to offer hybrid working – a mix of in-person and remote working – while 18% of positions will be entirely remote.
VanDerziel said employers seem to have recognized the benefits of remote work.
“While it may be too early to proclaim that the shift to a blended approach to work is here to stay, the hybrid modality offers an attractive level of flexibility for many employees, seasoned and new alike,” he said. -he declares. “This, coupled with the fact that employers have been able to verify their employees’ ability to operate remotely during the pandemic, suggests that hybrid modality may well be the new normal.”
The NACE report is based on a survey of 196 companies and also takes place between February 2 and March 11.
