AHMEDABAD: Sensing that their fight in the Gujarat Assembly elections is likely to be with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the BJP sent a 17-member team, including former ministers and MPs, to Delhi to monitor the development of the national capital. The team will return after inspecting Delhi but without meeting any AAP leaders.
The AAP campaigned in Gujarat using the Delhi development as a model. However, there seemed to be a lack of coordination between the BJP leaders in Delhi and Gujarat. In a press conference, when Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani was asked about the visit to Delhi, he said:
“Gujarat BJP members went to Delhi to attend a BJP media cell workshop, not to visit schools or check the Delhi model.” On the other hand, BJP Delhi Twitter account tweeted a photo of Gujarat delegation and wrote, “Gujarat delegation welcome to Delhi to see Kejriwal mock model in Delhi.”
Meanwhile, on learning of the Gujarat team’s visit, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia tweeted, “We have formed a team of 5 MPs to welcome this Gujarat team and show them the school and the mohalla clinic.
These 5 AAP MPs will travel to Gujarat in a week to see the schools and hospitals there. I am confident that the government of Gujarat will welcome them in the same way. The two sides have been at odds over Delhi’s development model for some time, with Sisodia also visiting a government school in Bhavnagar in Gujarat two months ago.
